IFAD Support Mission Assesses Progress of KIIWP2 in Kayonza District

On this September 3, 2025, the Mayor John Bosco Nyemazireceived the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Support and Supervision Mission, together with the Single Project Implementation Unit of the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (#SPIU-RAB). The visit aimed to assess the implementation progress of the Kayonza Integrated Irrigation and Watershed Management Project (#KIIWP2).

During the visit, the Mayor highlighted significant achievements already registered under the project. These include land husbandry practices established on more than 1,300 hectares, the construction of 15 valley dams, and the development of irrigated fruit orchards covering 1,337 hectares.

He also commended the ongoing commencement of the Kanyeganyege and Gishanda irrigation schemes, which are expected to further enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen water management, and improve the livelihoods of local farming communities.

The mission reaffirmed IFAD’s commitment to supporting Rwanda’s efforts in promoting climate-resilient agriculture and ensuring food security through sustainable use of land and water resources.
